A Furnace is the device used to heat your home.
There are many different types, that can use either gas or electric as the primary energy source. There are three
primary issues to consider when choosing a furnace.
| |
1)
The Efficiency of the Furnace (How much energy is
converted to heat). Furnaces today are
generally between 80-96% efficient. Furnaces 15
years and older can be as low as 60% efficient. Thus,
upgrading to a 96% efficient furnace can reduce heating
bills by 30% or more. |
| |
2)
Fan Speed (Single Speed or Variable). Variable
Speed Fans can save over 80% of the cost of the fan
operation saving as much as $180/year.
Additionally, a variable speed fan is much quieter and
provides a more gradual increase airflow. |
| |
3)
Single or Two Stage (How much energy is used to heat).
Two Stage furnaces typically use less energy to heat
your home. Heating is more uniform and comfortable
and the furnace runs more quietly |

An Air Conditioner is the device that extracts the heat from
your home. Electric is the primary energy source for air
conditioners. There are two primary issues to consider when
choosing an air conditioner.
| |
1)
The Efficiency of the Air Conditioner (How much energy
is needed to cool) The SEER (Seasonal Energy
Efficiency Rating) number of a new Air Conditioner is
typically between 13 and 18. The higher the SEER rating,
the greater the energy efficiency. Currently, the
Government mandates a minimum of a 13 SEER rating to
increase energy efficiency nationwide for air
conditioners. |
| |
2)
Refrigerant Type (The chemical used to cool).
There are two main types of refrigerants, R-22 and
R-410. In 1990, the United States required the phasing
out of all chlorine-based refrigerants(R-22) as not
environmentally friendly.
Beginning in 2010, no new air conditioners will be
manufactured using R-22 and by 2020, the manufacturing
of R-22 will be completely banned. In the meantime, the
cost to maintain an R-22 air conditioner will go up
dramatically.
Although it will cost more initially, Air Quality Control
by Insana recommends air conditioners that use R-410
refrigerant as they will be much less expensive to
maintain over the life of the air conditioner and are
more environmentally friendly. |

Indoor Air Quality has become a great concern in America. In a
recent study, the EPA reported that the air inside your home can
be up to 40 times more polluted than the outdoor environment and
reported that over 50% of all illnesses come from the air we
breathe. An average 6 room house collects over 40
lbs of dust each year and as a result, asthma, allergies and breathing problems have increased
at alarming rates. Air Quality Control by Insana
carries a variety of products to improve the air you breath.
| |
1)
Media Filters help to remove the dust, smoke and
pollen from your home. The standard 1" filter is
to protect your furnace, not improve the air quality. |
| |
2) UV
Lights kill the harmful bio-aerosols such as mold,
bacteria and viruses. UV lights are installed into the
return air drop and purifies the air as it is circulated
through the duct system.. |
| |
3)
Electronic Air Cleaners are whole house air cleaners
that trap Volatile
Organic Compounds as small as one micron.
Our HEPA quality filters constantly filter the air that
moves through the furnace system . |
| |
4)
Humidifiers control the level of moisture in the air.
Too much or too little humidity can cause mold, cracks
in wood and an uncomfortable home to live in. With
our permanent humidifiers, you can set the level you
want and the system will take care of itself. |
