There are many things you can do to make your system more
efficient and your home more comfortable. Below are a few
that we think are most important. |
|
|
● |
Purchase and
install a programmable thermostat. These are relatively
inexpensive units that replace your old thermostat and change
the temperature settings depending on the time of day. It
allows you to save money by not heating (or cooling) when no one
is around. When cooling, your operating costs increase
from 3% to 8% for each degree your thermostat is lowered.
When heating, your operating costs increase similarly for each
degree your thermostat is raised. If you unsure how
to install it or need help, please call. |
|
● |
Close all
doors and windows to the outside. This will reduce the heating
load in winter and the cooling load in summer. Your system will
operate more economically as a result and your filters will have
less to clean. |
|
● |
Seal and weatherstrip all
seams, cracks and openings to the outside. You can save 10% or
more on your energy bill by reducing the air leaks in your home. |
|
|
● |
Arrange your
furniture and drapes so that all intake and output vents are
free from obstruction. This will improve the efficiency of your
furnace and air conditioner and reduce your costs. |

An easy way
to make sure your system operates efficiently and economically
is by keeping the air filter clean. Make sure you know
where your air filter is located and which type of filter to
use. How often a filter should be replaced depends on the
filter.
